Join Art In Voyage in Tanzania on this 9-night safari in search of the thundering herds of the famous Wildebeest Migration. From the lesser-frequented Tarangire National Park to the sought-after Ngorongoro Crater, and finally, to Central Serengeti, our experienced team will share insights and rare behind-the-scenes perspectives along the way.
With the limited group size on the journey, we focus on providing the most exclusive, authentic, and private experience of the Great Migration as possible. While little can compete with the breathtaking moments during a migration safari, our hand-picked properties along the way are a close contender.
"The only man I envy is the man who has not yet experienced Africa."
Join us on Tanzania's Serengeti plains to experience one of nature's greatest wonders, the Wildebeest Migration. Witness the incredible sight of 2,000,000 wildebeest along with gazelle and zebra thundering across plains and rivers, all from the most exclusive vantage points that our private guides lead us to. Get your cameras ready, sit back, and prepare yourself for the greatest wildlife show on earth!
While carefully selecting properties that offer both comfort and luxury, we have also ensured that they provide an authentic African Safari experience. All of our properties pay attention to personal touches, service, and privacy. As always with Art In Voyage, style and exclusivity go hand-in-hand, which is why this journey focuses on encountering more animals, and fewer tourists.
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your Art In Voyage host greets you with a warm African welcome. We make our way to our home for the night, a secluded lodge hidden amongst Tanzania’s largest coffee plantation, set below the rugged peaks of Mt Meru. Should you be up for some exploring, let us arrange a trip to the vibrant African markets. Otherwise, simply relax in the picturesque gardens of your accommodation and recover from your international flights before your safari begins tomorrow. Tonight, an impeccable welcome dinner is served at our property.
After breakfast, we depart Arusha and make our way to Tarangire National Park, a quick flight that will take us to the official start of our safari. From the airstrip, we game drive through the park to reach the safari camp, arriving just in time for lunch. Tarangire is a breathtaking park to explore, with an abundance of elephant, superb birdlife, and a landscape that is punctuated by baobab trees, verdant swamps, and distant volcanoes. After settling in and refreshing, we set off on an afternoon game drive to discover the park further with our private guide. On returning to camp, drinks around the campfire and dinner await.
Today is dedicated to exploring Tarangire with your guide and becoming acquainted with Africa's most impressive wildlife. For those who wish to encounter more wildlife and fewer tourists, Tarangire provides an ideal start of your safari experience. As the wildlife is most active in the early mornings, we have made sure to keep these precious hours flexible for you - embark on a game drive, or opt for a more relaxed morning spectating the Great Migration wildlife from your balcony. Or for an unforgettable start to your day, how about a hot-air ballooning experience (pre-booking recommended) soaring high above the park at sunrise?
Begin your day with yet another thrilling and informative game drive through Tarangire, also referred to as the 'Land of the Giants', due to the dominance of elephants and the iconic baobab trees in the park. Return to camp for lunch and possibly a siesta or a swim to ease off the midday heat, or let us arrange a picnic lunch should you wish to spend a full day exploring the park and chasing wildlife. The landscapes surrounding you will leave you breathless, varying between open plains, swamps, and riverine forest, all set against the dramatic backdrop of the Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano in the distance. Should you be interested in partaking in a guided bush walk or a night safari, we will gladly arrange this for you.
Today’s destination is Ngorongoro, one of the most extraordinary places in East Africa. You’ll spend the next two nights in a property perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Being the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world, and also due to the spectacular Big 5 sightings within its crater walls, this is a sought-after natural spectacle to see. To truly appreciate your time here, we focus on providing the most private and exclusive experience, as possible, of Ngorongoro. The area is renowned for Masai herdsmen who live in harmony with the land, and today you will have the opportunity to glimpse into their way of life.
Wake up overlooking the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater and get ready for a day spent experiencing just why it has been claimed a UNESCO World Heritage site. This dormant volcano provides a natural sanctuary for a wonderful diversity of wildlife, including black rhino, lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard, and more, which we hope to encounter with our guide today. After a picnic lunch, we make our way back to the lodge to enjoy the view from above, kick-back, and embrace the facilities on offer. Tonight, we gather around a crackling fire with a glass of wine or whiskey before sitting down to a delicious three-course dinner.
Today we say goodbye to Ngorongoro and head to the central section of the park, but fear not, we will not be driving the distance. A light aircraft awaits us for a breathtaking flight over the savannahs and Great Migration to reach our next destination, Central Serengeti. This area is known for plentiful big cat activity because of the dramatic rocky outcrops that dot the plains which serve as excellent observation points for cheetah, lion, and leopard. After landing, we make our way into the heart of the Serengeti Plains to our striking yet secluded lodge; our home for the next few nights.
Awaken in the middle of pristine nature, feeling hopeful for some incredible big cat activity! Intrepid game drives continue, as our guide takes us across the Serengeti Plains (meaning ‘endless plain’) in search of Great Migration moments and unique vantage points to view the abundance of wildlife. A walking safari is one of the best ways to experience the Serengeti from a different perspective - chat with us if you're up for one! Tonight, we enjoy an intimate bush dinner accompanied by exquisite wine and laughs among new friends.
Today is your day to pursue any safari bucket-list points that you may not have checked-off as yet! Embark on both morning and afternoon game drives, or chat to the Art In Voyage team about arranging other safari activities or private experiences. As evening approaches, sit back and enjoy sundowner drinks overlooking the grasslands, watching the fiery orange sun sink below the horizon. A spectacular farewell dinner is served at the lodge, either beneath the stars, or marveling at a mighty African thunderstorm - either way, an impressive sight, and last night.
Finally, you will understand why they say "Africa is not just a place. Africa is a feeling". A reluctance to depart Africa is common, however, one final game drive en-route to the airstrip is still to be experienced. After this, we depart from the Serengeti via a light aircraft, giving you a bird’s eye view of the land that you have been exploring over the past few days. On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, we bid farewell as you head home. Not quite ready? How about extending your journey to Zanzibar for a few nights? Chat to us and we will happily set that up for you.
