Uncover Croatia's highlights and delights on this small curated journey. Experience everything from culture to history, from food to new wine regions, all while enjoying incredible scenery and sites. We start with the discovery of Istria, where wine tasting, truffle-infused dinners and excellent sea food are just part of daily life. We then enjoy a relaxing 3-day stay on the island of Vitality (Mali Losinj), filled with outdoor activities, spa treatments and even a full day playing celebrity aboard our very own yacht. Our last leg takes us to Dubrovnik where you uncover sites such as the Dominican Monastery, the Rector’s Palace and Dubrovnik Cathedral. We did not forget about indulging in an oyster-farm experience and several wine tastings along the way.
While it would take weeks to cover this beautiful nation, this journey is the perfect appetizer for a future, more in depth discovery of Croatia. We will touch on Culture, History, Food, Wine, Scenery and Outdoors. Perfectly balanced to give each guests some time to enjoy and relax, our program is truly a taste of everything Croatia has to offer
Led by our executive Chef, who has been to Croatia several times, you will indulge in some of the best cuisine the country has to offer. A mix of international flavors combined with some of their ancestral recipes. And the wine will not be left behind as the country is becoming a force to be reckoned with in that area. Truly enjoy and learn about the fantastic and fresh seafood, goat meat, excellent cheeses, truffles and much more.
After being picked up at the airport by our chauffeur, your host welcomes you at what will be your home for 3 nights: The incredible Meneghetti, a Relais & Chateaux property but above all, a wine and olive oil estate. After getting the lay of the land and some time to unwind from your journey (maybe with a spa treatment?), we regroup for a cocktail followed by a traditional Croatian welcome dinner, paired with Italian and Croatian wines (included).
It's all in the nose...the dog's that is. We start our morning with a fun and teachable moment, "hunting" for truffles. we continue our experience with a cooking class where we learn the best use of this other kind of black gold. Our day would not be complete without a stop by 2 of the local wineries. Tonight, dinner is at leisure. Enjoy a romantic one at the property, or head to the local town of Bale, walk its cobblestone streets and enjoy a casual dinner at one of our favorite eateries there.
Our first stop today is Groznjan. After World War II, many of this hill town’s longtime residents fled for Italy, leaving few inhabitants. By the late 1960s, artists and bohemian types had settled in. Today the charmingly ramshackle village, with its chunky cobblestone lanes, is crammed with galleries. Our second stop could last up to 3 hours. Housed in a 600-year-old former olive mill at what is basically a countryside intersection, the 17-seat Toklarija and its eccentric chef and owner, Nevio Sirotic, puts the “slow” in “slow food". There, we enjoy a 6-course tasting lunch, before ending in the sea town of Rovinj for late afternoon cocktails and a stroll. Later at the property, if you are still hungry, join us for another dinner paired with local wines.
Time to say goodbye to Istria, and make our way the beautiful island of Losinj. Our journey will take about 3-hours, to include a ferry crossing and a beautiful drive through two islands, connected by a 50-feet low bridge. On arrival at our beautiful property on the island, we have arranged for a private spa treatment. Choose from one of the several lovely packages offered by Villa Alhambra and take the time to enjoy some time on the "Island of Vitality". Dinner will be at leisure, at one of the property's lovely restaurants, or a short walk down the pathway along the creek.
This morning, join our Chef Kevin as well as one of the local Chefs from Villa Alhambra for a unique experience at a local family owned farm that deals with vegetable produce. We continue with a visit of the town's fish market where we pick up ingredients to be used for today's cooking class at the Villa. It is followed by lunch. Afternoon at leisure. Let us organize tours and activities, take advantage of the property's bikes, paddle board in the bay of Cikat, or simply relax by the pool. Tonight, we travel to the highest point on the island for a lovely Sundowner before a tasting dinner at the property, paired with local and Italian wines.
After a lazy morning (yoga, paddle boarding, massage or simply sleeping in), we are picked up at the dock where we board our private yacht for a tour of the island, and a stop at several incredible spots for a swim in the crystal clear blue waters. On board, bubbly and wine await, while for lunch, we have planned for you a picnic to be had on one of the isolated beaches. Late afternoon and evening at leisure. Tour the island on a bike before stopping by one of the several eateries around for sunset, or simply enjoy a private and romantic dinner at the property's gastronomic restaurant.
This morning, we start our journey south, towards Dubrovnik. The first leg is a short yet beautiful scenic flight to Zadar, where we are met by our driver for a drive towards Dubrovnik. Our journey from this point will take 4 hours, crossing Bosnia for a hot second as the country splits Croatia in two. On arrival and after settling at our lovely property, we have organized a late afternoon walking tour of the city with a local guide. The rest of the day, and evening, are at leisure.
This morning, we head out to the Pelješac peninsula, the second largest in Croatia and a land mass crammed with history, culture and plenty of wine and food. We stop in the bay-side town of Ston, famous for its oysters, which we taste at one of their local farms before enjoying a sea food lunch. On our way back to Dubrovnik, we pay a visit to two family-run wineries. Tonight, we hold our farewell dinner at one of our favorite gastronomic restaurant, overlook the old port of Dubrovnik and the impressive citadel.
All good things must come to an end, and while we don't want to say it, it is the sad truth. We take comfort in having introduced you to what we truly believe is paradise on earth. This morning, arrangements are made to take you to your airport. Looking to extend? Check out our add-on(s) or have us design your very own extension. Slovenia and Zagreb are two of the many wonderful options available.
