Spring Food Follies in Charleston

April 21-25, 2021

Hosted by Chef Kevin Fonzo

Welcome to our Spring follies, foodie follies to be exact! Have you met Charleston? Whether or not you have been here before, visit Charleston during a time of year that you will not want to miss. Hosted by several times James Beard Award Nominee Chef Kevin Fonzo, this 4 night/5 day experience will introduce you to some of the best eateries, all hand-picked by Kevin.

The city is a catalyst for connections that inspire curiosity through storytelling and meaningful experiences with a "Sense of Place". No, that's not our poetic side coming out, it is exactly how the city's food scene is described by its annual festival organizers (unfortunately canceled in 2021). And it is right on point with what we know, and our personal experience. You will stay in one of the most beautiful parts of the city, in a building boasting quite a bit of history itself. So, join Kevin and Art In Voyage for a true feast of the senses.

Covid19 disclosure: While we plan for the best, during these challenging times, some of our programs may need to be altered at the last minute - including our choice of restaurants - based on restrictions and other issues that might arise before or during our travels. Should it become the case, we will do our best to ensure quality and experiences are delivered as expected.

Day 1
After arriving in Charleston, we will check into The Emeline, where you will meet your host, Chef Kevin, for a welcome cocktail.
Then, we climb onto a horse-drawn carriage for a short ride around historic Charleston on our way to Kevin's first selection: FIG! We are hosted by its chef for a welcome dinner to remember, paired to perfection with U.S and International wines.

Day 2
This morning, we are met by our local private guide, a Charleston native, for a private walking tour of the city. Incorporate in that tour are local food artisan shops at which we stop regularly to enjoy some of Charleston's specialties. Chef Fonzo then takes us to the famous Rodney Scott BBQ for a meet & greet, tour and lunch at this staple of BBQ cuisine in the city.
The afternoon is at leisure to allow you to enjoy some downtime or maybe a stroll through Charleston's vibrant shops. Our evening starts with a cooking class with a local Chef, followed by dinner, paired with fantastic wines.

Day 3
This morning, we take on Charleston City Market. There, Chef Fonzo guides you through some of the tricks he often uses when shopping for the perfect ingredients. In reality, he needs your help to prepare the lovely picnic to be held the next day at one of our favorite spots outside of Charleston.
For lunch, we head over to The Gin Joint, where we also embark on a mixology class. Some of the best gins are placed in front of you with experts showing you how you may have done it wrong the whole time!
After a break and late afternoon at leisure, we head over to Husk for another dinner paired with excellent US and International wines.

Day 4
This morning, we enjoy a walk through the Farmer's markets where Chef Kevin makes sure to collect the last items needed for today's picnic and visit of greater Charleston, its swamps, and coastline. However, not before a stop at Dave's to pick up clams, oysters, and shrimps. This would not be a good southern picnic without some of the quaint essential now would it?
Later this afternoon, we end up at High Wire Distillery for a private tasting.
Tonight, the last dinner to remember is held at The Ordinary, which is served with wines paired to perfection.

Day 5
If you think we are done with you, well, think again! We must not part before a traditional farewell (Gospel) brunch at the famous Halls Chophouse. There, a local Gospel choir will welcome you into the restaurant and sing soulful Southern songs while you eat, accompanied by a piano and tambourine.
Once this incredible experience is over, our driver will whisk you away to the airport for your flight home.
