Pearls of the Adriatics - FAQs

Before the Cruise

Got pre‐cruise jitters? These FAQs are your life vest—strap in and sail smoothly!

Do I need a visa to enter the EU?
At this moment, the EU has not implemented the ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization). It could be launched at any time, however unlikely. Should it become the case before the cruise takes place, we will inform all guests. No visa is required for citizens of the US and Canada. Citizens from other countries should check with their embassy or contact us at concierge@artinvoyage.com
What do I need for check in?
You will be asked for your passport. Your check-in experience, at the request of Art In Voyage, will be done as smoothly and as expeditiously as possible. Have your passports ready when boarding, have a seat, a glass of bubbly (or Chardonnay), and let us handle the rest. By the time you are done, your luggage will safely be in your cabins, and the crew will be delighted to show you around.
What is the currency on board?
The USD. However, by card only. Should you want to pay for anything in cash, euros will be needed. Keep in mind that credit cards are accepted and the best way to finalize your bill at checkout for all items not included (spas, shops, premium wines, and liquors).
Is there Wi-Fi on board?
The ship is equipped with complimentary high-speed internet via satellite. Speed and availability may vary based on the most recent tariff policies and spacewalk schedules!
Is there laundry service on board?
There is a laundry service available on board. It is a paid service. If you are staying in one of our Owner, Terrace, or Yacht suites, laundry is complimentary on a limited basis (once a week, up to 10 items per suite).
Updated August 11: The laundry mat (self-service) on deck 4 is free of charge.
What to wear on board?
Always the million-dollar question—outfits are personal, and there’s no runway competition aboard! For dinner in the main restaurant, think “neat casual” (shirt and shoes, please—no tux required). During the day and around the ship, just keep it respectful (tops on in indoor public areas).

September 6: Welcome Dinner
Venice Carnival meets Masquerade Ball. We’ll leave you a mask in your cabin—then it’s your turn to shine. Go wild with color, feathers, sequins…whatever screams “Carnival”! We’ll email some inspiration to get your creative gears turning.

September 12: Captain’s Extravaganza Dinner
This is your moment. Raid the boutiques, embrace bold prints, slip into summer-chic glam—whatever feels fabulous. It’s showtime!
How much luggage is allowed on board?
Your cabin’s cozy—think boutique chic, not warehouse—so we suggest one big bag and a carry-on per guest. Once unpacked, slide them under the bed (it’s made for that), and voilà: leg-room bliss. Love options? We get it—toss in an extra case and we’ll tuck it away where we can, but space is limited!
Weather dictates what to pack
Here’s the vibe for Croatia in early September: warm, sunny, breezy. Coast: days ~26–29°C (79–84°F), evenings ~18–21°C (64–70°F). Sea temp: ~23–25°C (73–77°F). Expect strong sun, a quick shower here and there, and postcard sunsets. Pack light + smart (no fashion lecture): Breathable layers (linen/cotton), swimsuit, easy cover-up Smart-casual outfit for nicer dinners Light sweater/shawl for nights & A/C Packable rain jacket Comfy non-slip walking shoes; deck-friendly sandals if you’re boating Sun armor: hat, sunglasses, reef-safe SPF Bug repellent (evenings), small daypack/dry bag Optional: motion-sickness tabs, scarf/shawl for church visits
How about adapters and plugs?
All outlets on board the ship are designed to take US and European plugs. Adapters, unless you have devices coming from a country that is not the US or an EU member, will not be needed. All appliances and devices can now take voltage varying from 110 to 240V, and unless you plan on bringing a microwave or a washing machine, no power converters are needed.
Do I have to plan for local currency?
While cards are widely accepted, it is always great to have some local currency on you. We do not, in general, recommend getting it in the U.S. Rather, bring your check/atm card and draw a little (euros in this case) when you arrive. ATMs must be located in safe areas or bank branches (preferred). Avoid stand-alone ATMs. When asked if you'd like to convert into USD, DECLINE!. That will cost you more. Always select the local currency. TIP: Make sure to let your bank know about your travels, and use a card that does not charge foreign currency fees. AMEX is widely accepted but cost more for many smaller merchants, so make sure to have a back up.
Are tips included?
Crew gratuities are already covered, but if you’d like to reward your hosts and team for going the extra mile, that’s entirely up to you. After the cruise, we’ll send you a link to tip the team as a whole—tips are pooled and split evenly among hosts to keep it fair, so please resist handing out cash to individuals (though the choice is yours!).
Delayed, Canceled, not finding my driver/skipper?
Airlines can throw curveballs—delays are expected, so no need to alert us. If your flight’s canceled, though, give us your new details ASAP. And if you miss your flight, we won’t know unless you tell us—otherwise you might foot extra transfer or hotel fees. The sooner we hear, the better.
How to update us:
- Emergency number (only travel-day emergencies): +1 631 440 3050, press 1—this rings our on-call team.
- AIV app: Send a message through the in-app chat.

Can’t find your driver/skipper?
- Try calling or WhatsApping them at the number we send ahead of time—usually fastest, and it will be easier to describe your location for a quick re-grouping.
-Still stuck? Call +1 631 440 3050, press 1.

For non-emergencies before departure, email concierge@artinvoyage.com or call +1 631 440 3050 during office hours.
Insurance: yes or no?
Insurance is optional, of course. Yet, remember, it is your safety net. Yes, it can feel pricey, but skipping it can be far more costly. First, check your credit cards: many include travel coverage—just call and ask about limits and exclusions. If you need extra protection, you can buy a policy up to two days before departure. We partner with Allianz (top-tier, in our humble opinion), but shop around—some insurers hide behind fine-print loopholes. You have two main choices:
- Full-trip cover (cancellation through departure + interruption during travel)
- On-trip only (medical emergencies, repatriation, etc.)—cheaper, since you’re not insuring the trip cost, but emergencies during the trip. Questions? Needing a quote from Allianz? Hit us up at concierge@artinvoyage.com.
Should I bring my hair dryer?
We’ve got hair dryers in every cabin—think soft summer breeze, not hurricane-force Dyson. Want full-throttle tresses? Tote your turbo dryer in that luggage.
What cruise port is the ship docked at?
The Emerald Azzura will be docked at the smaller San Basilio port. Since all our transfers are included, you do not have to worry about those details. The skippers/drivers will know. Should you be heading there directly on your arrangements, plug "SAN BASILIO PORT" for directions and confirm with our team, 24 hours before, that the cruise is still confirmed to be docked there. And remember, you will not be granted access to the pier or the ship until the check-in time assigned to you.

During the Cruise

Need answers while you’re riding the waves? Our ‘During the Cruise’ FAQs are your life raft—keeping you cruising smoothly from deck to dock!”

Can I bring alcohol on board?
Feel free to stow your favorite tipple—no booze ban here! Just pack lightly and savor local vintages ashore (your duty-free haul will thank you). And remember: you’ve got an open bar waiting on deck!
Does my open bar include everything?
Our open bar lineup is delightfully extensive—only a handful of rare wines and ultra-premium spirits sit outside the menu.
What time is check-in?
We’ll welcome you aboard in small groups so you get the full AIV VIP treatment—no rushed check-ins here! We’ll answer all your questions, give you a mini-ship tour, and wrap up the final maritime paperwork at leisure.
Jetsetter Gratitude members get the red carpet: priority boarding at 2:00 PM.
Your exact slot? It will be on your AIV app, along with the pick up time at your hotels in Venice, or airport if arriving that day.
With departure set for 8:00 PM, feel free to explore Venice after check-in—just be back by 6:00 PM for cocktails and 7:00 PM for dinner. Enjoy!
My flight arrives early on September 6. What happens?
We’ll scoop you up at the airport and deposit you in the heart of Piazza San Marco—your bags will be cruising ahead to the ship. Take your time: sip a café by the lagoon, wander the cobblestones, even grab lunch. At an agreed-upon time (which will be in your AIV app), our private water taxi will whisk you to the vessel—your luggage will be dockside, waiting to join you.
When docked, can we come and go?
While we’re docked, feel free to slip ashore for dinner or nightlife—you can hop back on anytime (we’ll have someone ready to scan you in). We’ll dock in Rovinj, Šibenik, and Dubrovnik (and possibly Korčula), with exact stops confirmed closer in. When anchored off Vis, Hvar or Korčula, our tenders will run until midnight.
When will we have access to the floating marina and the water toys?
The floating marina and water toys may only be deployed/used when anchored. This is currently set for Day 5 (Hvar), Day 6 (Korkula if we anchor), and Day 7 (Mljet). On any other days, should you want to have some water sports and activities organized, please let your concierge (concierge@artinvoyage.com) know so we may reach out to local partners for availability and pricing
When is the last tender boat?
The last tender is 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the ship. Unfortunately, we will not be able to wait and should you miss the tender, or the ship, you will need to make your way to meet us at the next destination.
Are Towels available to take to shore?
Yes. Please make sure to bring them back to the ship to avoid being charged a fee.
Are transfers to each experiences we booked through AIV included?
Some experiences will require transfers to the meeting point, which would not be included (extra charge). That is the case for the beach club in Rovinj. However, most will start at the dock and thus would not require any sort of transfers.
What happens to our luggage if we have a Dubrovnik tour on September 13?
You have booked our Dubrovnik tour on September 13? We’ll store your bags at the tour’s endpoint in Dubrovnik. If you’ve booked a hotel through us, your luggage will go straight there—so you can roam Old Town hands-free for lunch or lounging. Flying off that day? The driver taking you to the airport will have the pieces with him when collecting you from the tour's endpoint.
My Dubrovnik hotel is in Old Town. What happens to the transfers?
You will be dropped off at Pile Gate and will need to go by foot from there. If the hotel you booked has a bell desk, they will need to be contacted ahead of your arrival so they may organize some assistance (if available). Keep in mind that some hotels are located higher up in Old Town, with cobblestone streets and steps.
Are there medical services on board?
There are trained medical crew members. More urgent procedures or in case of a true emergency that requires immediate attention, local EMTs and emergency services will be brought on board by either boat or helicopter. During your cruise, any minor medical issues can be attended to by trained professionals.
Can I get medication on board, including motion sickness?
For liability reasons, crew members and AIV team members are unable to distribute motion sickness medication or any other kind of medication unless it is during a visit to the infirmery and prescribed by a trained professional. Make sure to have your basics (motion sickness, aspirin, ibuprofen, etc..) during the cruise. Any medication that requires refrigeration can be placed in your in-room minibar or provided to the crew for storage.
