Livingstone
Livingstone, Southern Provence, Zambia
Livingstone is a relaxed river town on the Zambian side of the Zambezi, a few kilometres upstream from Victoria Falls—Mosi-oa-Tunya, “the Smoke that Thunders.” Broad, palm-dotted riverbanks, sun-bleached savanna, and miombo woodland shape the landscape, while colonial-era buildings and shaded verandas give the centre a quietly historic feel. The atmosphere is friendly and unhurried; craft markets, small cafés, and guesthouses sit alongside leafy avenues and red-earth backroads. Seasons define the scenery—heavy rains swell the Zambezi and cloak the gorge in spray, while drier months reveal basalt cliffs and amber grasslands—yet the town retains its easy, frontier-edge charm year-round.
