Gary Bogdon has been a photojournalist his entire professional career with over 30 years of experience working on staff at The Miami Herald and The Orlando Sentinel before working for over 15 years at Sports Illustrated as a contract photographer. His camera has always given him the opportunity and was his vehicle of exploring and traveling the world from India to Russia, Mexico to Spain and all over the USA.
He has always been fascinated by people and cultures of other lands in far away places. He enjoys helping others “see” with their camera’s the way that he sees the world , whether it’s amazing landscapes or the people in them.
His favorite destinations are Kauai, Costa Rica, and Barcelona
Fun Fact: Gary once had a brief motion picture appearance alongside actor Tom Cruise in the 1990 film ‘Days of Thunder’ as he was photographing him during filming scenes at Daytona International Speedway - Yet, he didn’t quit his day job !
London, England - en route to Bombay, India and I was 26 years old
As a teenager and admiring National Geographic photographers
Be Flexible, don't be afraid of change, and take lots of photos
Kauai,(Hawaii ) , New Orleans, Barcelona ( with NYC and Costa Rica in there as well )
Watching the sunrise (and photographing it ) at the top of Haleakala Volcano in Maui, Hawaii (the clouds were amazing ) very spiritual experience
A bad pair of uncomfortable shoes !
I've had so many, but anytime I'm eating outside and on local cuisine with a fun chef is the best
Forgetting to bring my wife's (packed ) suitcase to our destination in the British Virigin Islands - I wouldn't recommend it
NYC ( but I've not been to Milan or Hong Kong yet )
I've been fortunate and had so many- but traveling in India, Russia, and Costa Rica would be some of my most adventurous for sure. All for different reasons
Australia/New Zealand, Greece and Tuscany would be on my bucket list
Spend time with my wife and family, I'm a golfer too so love time for that, and enjoy spending time with friends over a nice dinner and wine, and laughing a lot
I’ve been on hundreds of flights, and driven all over, so I’m going with Train ( something romantic like an Orient Express would be amazing )
I've not been to either, but I'm thinking Swiss Alps
I always knew (since I was about 15-16 years old ) that I wanted to be a photojournalist which involves lots of travel , so that’s the career I began and I’ve done my entire life , and it’s evolved over the years and I’ve been fortunate to travel extensively
I'll stay away from politics, and go with Ellen DeGeneres ( so funny ), George Clooney ( my wife will vote for him too ) Oprah (who doesn't love her ), Michael Jordan , Sting
My dog ( a mini schnauzer named Louie ) and my own bed
It's a tie- Costa Rica and Kauai, Hawaii
I've used them all in my career- but I'm currently a Canon shooter but familiar with them all
