Your appreciation of the beauty of our earth and the need for its utmost preservation, conservation, and nurturing will only be elevated. The Icelandic horizon will certainly ignite passion, awe, and gratitude in your heart and you will feel an overwhelming sense of fulfillment throughout the experiential travel moments.
We take pride in designing itineraries and programs that combine flexibility with structured activities that are both meaningful and authentic. Our hosts consistently remain one step ahead so as to ensure that every experience is enhanced with suitable additions to the program. Group sizes are kept to a minimum which allows for an intimate and special atmosphere throughout the journey.
While carefully selecting properties that offer comfort and luxury, we have ensured that each property is authentic and unique. As we experience Iceland, both properties we stay at are owned and operated by local families that pride themselves in demonstrating true Icelandic hospitality. Expect to hear riveting stories and folk legends about their beloved country.
Upon your arrival in Reykjavik, you are greeted and warmly welcomed by your Art In Voyage host. We then make our way to the domestic airport where we embark on a flight to the Northland, which we call "home" for the next three nights. After we have checked-in and freshened up, we have some free time to explore the lovely town of Siglufjörður, known for its historic fishing industry and flourishing cultural life. An authentic welcome dinner is served and paired with wine this evening, followed by an expedition to view the renowned and breathtaking Aurora Borealis, or more commonly referred to as the 'Northern Lights'.
This morning, depending on the weather, we embark on a whale watching and wildlife adventure. Brimming with unique fauna and flora, the fjord offers breathtaking mountain scenery, lush green valleys, and a unique coastal landscape peppered with iconic small farms and villages. After a whale watching experience amongst a diverse variety of whale species, we enjoy a scenic flight over the Diamond Circle, home to the famous Goðafoss waterfall - one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. On this excursion, we will be privy to a bird's eye view of the beauty. Dinner will be at leisure, with recommendations made by your host.
Today is yours to spend doing as much, or as little, as you would like. Sleep in, enjoy breakfast at your own pace, and indulge in a spa treatment, should you wish. A destination such as Iceland deserves the opportunity to be experienced with flexibility and a personal perspective, which we ensure on this journey, with the option of our guidance. Your hosts will gladly guide you to points of interest and appropriate transportation to the quaint coastal town of Siglufjörður. They will also be happy to take you exploring along the northern coastal roads. In the evening we have a delightful dinner in town and go on the hunt for more of the Northern Lights.
Today, we make our way to Lake Mývatn, which is renowned for an array of water birds that nest in the area, particularly a large variety of rare ducks. Lake Myvatn also boasts the Dimmuborgir Nature Reserve, Hverfjall Volcano, pseudo-craters, nature baths in Mývatn, and the Krafla volcano which last erupted in 1984. Lunch will be held at a farm-to-table restaurant, where you will be treated to an opportunity to milk cows and sample the homemade mozzarella they are famous for. We continue to Dettifoss to see the waterfalls and end a fruitful day in the comfort of our accommodation in the Eastern fjordlands.
Glaciers, ice caves, and waterfalls are on the agenda for today. We embark on a journey to the southeastern side of Ring Road to visit the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, made famous by the James Bond franchise as well as to the unrivaled Diamond Beach. After we have explored the ice cave at Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier, we make our way to the last place we will be staying at during our journey through Iceland - Gulfoss, or Golden Waterfall. Expect a day brimming with sheer beauty. After a visually enchanting and humbling day, choose to have dinner at an eatery that best suits your mood.
Being one of the best geological wonders in Iceland, Thingvellir National Park will certainly not be missed during our 'Iceland at a Glance' journey. Home to the Alþing (the site of Iceland's parliament from the 10th to 18th centuries), the Þingvellir Church, and the ruins of old stone shelters, you will appreciate why this was chosen as one of the Game Of Thrones film locations. We languorously spend time in the area, embracing the intriguing landscapes, unique buildings, and dramatic skylines. In the evening, another spectacular Icelandic dinner will be served at our accommodation.
En route to Iceland's biggest city; Reykjavik, we leave our luxury vehicle for a short time and ride All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) across the Hellisheidi Geothermal Plant, Hengill Mountain Range, and the iconic Instidalur valley. We highly recommend taking a dip in the rejuvenating Geothermal pools along the way, but as with all of the activities on this journey, this is completely optional. We then have the afternoon and evening to experience the city, where we will enjoy our special farewell dinner.
After a lengthy but satisfying week, this morning will be at leisure before we check out of our hotel. We're not done just yet! Before our international flights, we'll visit one of Iceland's Blue Lagoon. Enjoy relaxing in mineral-rich, warm pools, and have a face mask before heading to the international airport for your flight home. Thinking of extending? There is an abundance left to explore, Including the Reykjavik area and the western peninsula. All easily curated by the Art In Voyage Team!
